Women’s Crowned Kirkcaldy 7’s Champions!

Men's squad are Runner's Up

KIRKCALDY 7’s Update.

All roads led to Fife on Saturday with a Senior Mens 7’s team heading to St Andrews, and we had both a senior men’s & women’s squads entered in the tournament at Kirkcaldy

The men’s team were looking to defend the Cup that they won last year.

It wasn’t the start that either team wanted with both losing their opening fixtures in their group stages.

The Women lost their opening match 15-12 against Grangemouth.

The men pushed Stirling County all the way in their first game but ultimately lost out by 33-26, with coach Callum Carson saying the lads were fantastic despite the loss.

The women then spoiled the party for their hosts in the next game by securing a 39-0 win against Kirkcaldy, followed by a 32-12 win over Howe of Fife to go into the semi-final.

The men then racked up an equally impressive 34-0 win over Hearts & Balls, and followed that up with a 26-19 win over Dark Horse to progress to the knock out stages.

The women came up against the Hearts & Balls squad in the semis and came away with an excellent 32-17 win to make the final. Where they would face Pigbarians.

Not to be outdone the mens team racked up a 36-5 win over Howe of Fife in the Semi-Final  to set up a rematch against Stirling County.

In the final the men came out looking to establish themselves and managed to get to the half time break leading 14-7. They extended their lead to 19-7, but Stirling rallied with 3 converted tries to take the win and the cup 28-19.

In the women’s final things were nip and tuck, the score was 5-5 at half time and all to play for. The scores were all tied up at 17-17 when we came to the last play of the game. Pigbarians battled hard, but the Highland girls found a half gap on the short side and managed to make the break for the final score and the win. Full time 22-17.

So disappointment for the men, despite the massive effort and fantastic performances in all their games.

As for the Women’s team – cue a title, some silverware, and celebrations!

Congratulations to all concerned. A fantastic performance from both squads. Onwards and upwards.
