Interesting Facts you may not have known about Highland Rugby Football Club: #1

Today, 4th Jan 2022, marks the 100th anniversary of a meeting held in Inverness after which Highland Rugby Football Club came into being and the first club office bearers were appointed.

On the following Friday 6th Jan, The Inverness Courier, reported on the meeting as follows:

A very successful meeting was held in the Palace Hotel on Wednesday evening to consider the possibility of starting a rugby football club in the district.

There was a large attendance, over 50 being present, including representatives from Nairn and Fort George.

After some discussion, it was resolved to form a club representative of the North Of Scotland to be called the Highland Rugby Football Club.

The meeting then proceeded to the election of office-bearers, the following being appointed:-

Captain, K.I.G. Matheson;
Vice-captain, J. Paterson;
Treasurer, J. Connan;
