3rd XV welcome Turriff to Canal Park Saturday (3rd Dec)

There is Senior Mens Rugby at Home 3rd Dec

This weekend we do have some rugby at Canal Park to entertain the faithful – and those trying to avoid the Christmas shopping. Come on down to the club to cheer on the lads.

The 3rd XV welcome Turriff RFC to Canal Park this weekend in their latest Caledonia North League Div 3 Conference fixture. Kick Off is at 2pm.

This conference is proving to be another fiercely competitive 1st section of the season, with Kinloss Eagles RFC proving to be the class of the field at the moment, having won 7 of their 9 fixtures so far, and generally scoring points for fun.

In common with other leagues the big issue is that generally teams are struggling to win on the road.  This is true for Turriff who have probably suffered from the long journeys involved in this conference, which has required them to travel to Stornoway and Caithness. These are trips that Turriff probably didn’t expect to have to make.

Turriff suffered a 3 point deduction for the away game to Caithness due to insufficient numbers, and lost 99-0 away to Stornoway.  Having said that Turriff sit 4th out of 6 teams in our Conference with record of 3 wins and 4 losses, which would have given them 16 points were it not for the deduction. This is two game less than Highland have played so far.

They have also amassed 4 try bonus points – so they are more than capable of putting up a good score if their opponents defence doesn’t put the work in.

Highland currently lie in 2nd place,  having completed 9 matches so far, with a record of 5 wins and 4 losses, they too have secured 4 try bonus points.

It worth noting that the 3rd XV beat Kinloss Eagles 26-18 at Canal Park in their last outing. It would be great to see the 3rd XV kick on on the back of that win which will have given them some confidence that things are falling into place.

All things considered it seems that this could be an entertaining and high scoring match.  This is certainly a game that the Highland lads will want to win, and if possible win well.

They will want to stay in the chase for a top 3 place so that they are competing in the top part of the league when the top three in each conferences play each other once after the conferences split. This means the 3rd XV will have 5 games left in the season after the split takes place.

At the moment coaches Stuart Lewis, Colin Wallace & Gareth Lewis-Ing will have a full squad of 22 at their disposal.
