3rd XV welcome Deeside on Sat 8th Apr

The Sea Eagles (3rd XV) take the field against Deeside RFC this weekend in their latest Caledonia North Region Division 3 Play Off Game. 

Highland have nothing to gauge their opponents other than memories of last seasons game, and trying to assess Deeside by comparing their results in games against opponents Highland 3rd XV have already faced. 

Coach Gareth Lewis-Ing’s memories of last season are that we won well at home, but that we never really got off the bus when going down heavily in the away fixture. 

Deeside and Dyce played in the same Caley North Div 3 conference in the first half of the season. Each team narrowly winning their away game. Deeside edged Dyce 22-19 in Aberdeen, whilst Dyce triumphed 24-17 just along the road in Banchory. It seems  they are on a similar level..

So perhaps we can get some idea of how things will go for the Sea Eagles from last weeks 24-5 win over Dyce at Canal Park last Saturday. 

Coach Lewis-Ing said that the bonus point win was sealed without ever really firing on all cylinders and is of the view that there is more to come from this pretty young squad of players. 

He added that the smattering of old heads in the team lend their experience to keep focusing on the game plan when the going gets tougher – providing invaluable lessons for the youngsters. 

As for Saturday, we all know that pretty much nothing that has gone before matters when you step on the field to play. The only thing that matters is what you do there and then.
